Firearms and Ammunition Registration
Hunting is permitted with registered firearms per the requirements noted in the Hawaiʻi Hunter Education Certification, and is overseen by the Police Department within the county of residence, business or sojourn.
- Firearms and ammunition brought into the State must be registered with the Chief of Police of the county of residence, business, or sojourn within 48 hours after their arrival.
- Minors (15 years of age and younger) who hunt using a firearm are required to obtain a permit from the county police department.
- Minors (15 years of age and younger) who hunt using a firearm must be accompanied by a licensed non-hunting adult.
- Contact the district police station on the appropriate island or an office of the Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement for further information.
- Nonimmigrant aliens that wish to import firearms and ammunition into the United States temporarily must review the requirements of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
